Day 20 GAETI

Last day at last.
It was a bitter sweet experience as i happy it is over but will miss all the Professors and also the teacher's i interacted with.
The day went well with all presentations and also greetings from the Professors.
Can't wait to come back.

Day 19 GAETI

Can't believe that it is almost over !!!!
Feels like GAETI started yesterday. Time flew by quickly as we were so much involved in this workshop that i didn't feel like it is the 19th day.
Today the day started with our art work presentation to the class. We have two visitors to monitor the workshop. As each teacher was presenting the art work and they will use that art work in their classroom, the visitors and Dr.Latham were very impressed. I presented mine and explained that i will use the art work to introduce lab equipment, as it is an important topic before i take the students to the lab. So they will identify the equipment, name it and tell why it is used for with the lab equipment.
The rest of the day i worked on my e- portfolio , as i have to present it tomorrow. I worked on my lesson plan section, which took almost 3 hours, technology page and work sample page.

Day 18 GAETI

It is day 18 !!!!!!!!!!

The started with a production of presentation where Dr.Latham discussed and demonstrated how to create business as an extra income. We loaded the software, learned some features about the business exploration. I worked on my weebly page the rest of the time till lunch time. Second half of the day started with an interaction lecture with Dr. Talya. She shared and discussed about how to take care of ourselves during our busy schedules. I learned about the stress levels by doing a checklist and realized that i have an average levels in all stress levels. We interacted with a person in Brazil and learned many things about their culture, education system and lifestyle

Day 17 GAETI

The day started with creating info graph using Piktograph, where i created pages using the data given by Dr, lee. I created pie graph, bar graph and line graph to show the estimate readers and estimated income for a U.S daily newspaper. Then we moved to work on creating a audio video by creating three slides, where i included information about my class introduction for the first day and added voice to the video. We worked on our Weebly portfolio web page from 11.30 till 3.00 P.M. I tried to complete all the pages i created in Weebly. Added links to my work sample page for the work i finished. Added links to the technology page. I am left only with my lesson plan. We went to library to learn about Prezi essentials and how to use Prezi in the classroom by Ms.Stephanie Agnew.Learned how to create slides, embed a video in Prezi. Prezi is cool to use in the classoom , rather than the regular powerpoint. Students are going to love it!!!
In Prezi yo can zoom in and zoom out of the slides.

Day 16 GAETI

Can't believe that we are already into the last week of the workshop.
The day started with a discussion on how to use I Pads in the classroom by Ms.Stephanie Agnew. She shared some very good and important websites that we can use in the classroom on the I Pads. , like pocket body lite, video science, ever note, google maps etc. Unfortunately at my school I don't have I pads. But I may  get some in future.  Anyway the information is always useful.
Dr.Lee demonstrated how to create a story on Adobe spark adding pictures, videos and grid show. Then we creates our with a tile "Where are you from"?. I create a story of where i came from adding the text, pictures, video and also grid show of the places i grew up ,went to school and college.And some site seeing places. Then Dr.Lee demonstrated -how to create a newspaper. For which we worked in groups and selected some current events in Science and prioritized them to make a newspaper. We made a catchy title for each of the article and created a travel doc and summarized our article and posted it in the canvas. The article i worked on was "Need to fix heart attack!! Try photosynthesis", an article talking about using plants processing photosynthesis to cure heart attacks.Worked on the Weebly to complete my e-portfolio.I updated technology, work sample pages. I also learned how to insert web links to my pages from YouTube and Adobe Spark.

Day 15 GAETI

It's been 15th day already!!!!!

This week was exciting and i learned so many new things. Today the day started with a guest lecture from Mr. Jeremy Martin Assistant Secretary of State. He shared with us very important information that they do in their department and he gave us the valuable information about starting a business, types of businesses and how the licencing can be done. Ms. Angela Latham discussed with us the ways to supplement your income as an educator plan. the features we need to start a business and required fields to make a registration.After lunch we worked on our art and craft where we did the finishing touch to our art work and glued the glass pieces to out picture. Later half of the afternoon we worked on our webpage like canvas, uploaded my art work to my webpage , did my lesson mini lesson plan.

Day 14 GAETI

the day started with Ms. Billie Jean Fulton explaining and demonstrating about the technology learning in the classroom, How to create our own you tube channel , which was very informative. In Dr. B's class we worked on our video on camtasia and presented it to the class. It was a very new and unique experience to me ,as this is the first time i recorded a video, edited, added voice and presented it. Afternoon session started with arts , where I worked on my picture a I created, glued it in the 3D shape, which is always fun learning something new in the arts class. Ms.Latham introduced the building your brand as an educator , was very exciting to learn you to earn a little more income. Which was very informative. enjoyed today's class.

Day 13 GAETI

Day 13 started with how to create a story using Adobe spark. We create an image on adobe spark.
Dr. B demonstrated how to add voice and edit video using camtasia, where we watched a video which is already recorded and learned how to add voice and music to it. Later we worked on out video, which we recorded yesterday of flat Stanley, which is challenging We downloaded our video clippings into camtasia and watched the video's and edited them as required. We had difficulty loading the video clippings from Samsung phone as, it was in different format and the computer was picking it up. So we had to download video conversion , convert he videos and work with them.Afternoon session started with arts , where i cut the glass which i will be gluing to my pictures. It was hard but i enjoyed working with glass.I took all the precaution in cutting the glass. Later we worked on canvas explained by Dr.Lee . How to create assignments, how to also grade the student work , how to create home page, announcements, syllabus, pages and also how to insert a link to the pages.

He is a good teacher. He demonstrates with explanation, which makes me understand better and follow his directions.

Day 12 GAETI

The started with creating an online presentation with power point. I made 3 slides on power point with information about y classes, subject I teach and syllabus I teach. And added voice to the slides and created a video using the information, which was very interesting and I learned something new. Dr. Beriswill explained that we have to record  flat Stanley and create a digital video. We worked in groups,cut flat Stanley and glued him on a card board. We planned to go to the cheese shop in the MSU campus to watch how cheese is created and video record flat Stanley there. From there we went to Barnes and nobles bookshop and did some more recording in the shop with flat Stanley, which was fun. Afternoon session started with arts , which I always look forward to , where we cut our pictures and Dr. Latham gave us a demo on how to cut glass pieces to glue to our pictures. from 3 to 5 we worked in group on our web quest II to create a lesson in our respective subjects. We worked on topic Weather and designed it in web quest with the required tools like task, process, evaluation, conclusion and teachers page.

Day 11 GAETI

the day started with introduction to Canvas by Dr.Lee. Learned how a canvas can be used in the class to teach students and also let students submit their work .  We created account in the canvas, did an introduction post.Ms,Summer Mord discussed with us about the copyright and fair use of different materials on the internet. I learned some important information about copyright and how important it is to use copyright rules and procedures to copy and print materials from webpages. Afternoon session started with arts, where we cut the pictures we drew. Then we learned how to record an introduction on canvas again and posted it on the website. Worked in group with Veronica, Shatavia  to plan a lesson to create on webquest with all required features. We planned to create a lesson on weather predictions.Later worked on Weebly to update our e-portfolio.

Day 10 GAETI

Its Friday!!!!!


Started the class with border crossing project where we learned how to cut our pictures we  made and glued yesterday. Dr.Briswell showed us how to use games for education and also some cool stuff with power point and excel. To create grouping of items on power point. Afternoon session started with Mr.Justin Putnam about formative assessment strategies and gamification. We learned how to use games in the classroom like Kahoot.it and nearpod. Went to tour T.K.Martin building where we learned how the children with disabilities are helped to over come their disability.

Day 9 GAETI

Today was a busy day. We started with Introduction of how to engage students and them discussed about the principles and techniques of engaging students. How student learn ,  motivate students and scaffolding ( supporting &prompting). Students will remember things only if they are meaningful to them. Students learn passively and actively. We also learned about the ARCS model of learning. Then we moved on to plan a mini lesson. We grouped according to our subject area and created a mini lesson plan. My subject is Science, so we created a lesson on Weather prediction. Afternoon session started with art and crafts , where we worked on our painting. Gluing it on the board to cut it later. We learned about different technology available to teachers , like Plickers, Google translate, Aurasma, bubbl.us, worditout, timetoast and Google doc. These are some cool technologies I learned today to use it in my classroom.

Day 8 GAETI

 The started with introduction of Dr.Kun and discussed about the difficulties we face writing a lesson plan. We learned about the lesson plan template with some examples and was introduced to UbD lesson plan. We had a global conversation session with a teacher in India , who shared her culture, traditions, and also school system. Afternoon session started with our art and craft , where we drew our pictures. painted, and cut the pictures. Second half of the session was a tour to China by Dr. Kun, her trip to China last year. It was interesting to learn about her culture, living styles , school systems and also about pollution levels. UbD is a good way to start a lesson plan as it is sets your end goal before you teach. And it gives you an idea , where to start your lesson and what are the objectives to be taught and what the desired out comes on the lesson should be. I would definitely like to learn more about UbD and implement it in my class room.

Day 7 GAETI

The day started with discussion on Geologic time and TP time line . We went through a tutorial which explains what the time line is and in how many eras it was divided and its features. Dr.Morris explained to us the time line calculation on Excel and we worked in groups to make a time using toilet paper. Next we worked on creating a power point and Weather Forecasting. Afternoon session started with our art project, where we printed our design we want to create and started drawing the picture and cut them into images of different shapes, which are present in the pictures.
We have a guest who lectured us on the History of Native Americans, and I learned a lot of information about their existence and their culture . It was interesting to know many facts about them.
We discussed in groups about the creative writing in Science and Social Studies to wards the end of the day.

Day 6 GAETI

The second week of the GAETI workshop began with a tour to the Geosciences museum in the Geoscience department , where we did a scavenger hunt in the museum looking at the specimens and answering the questions and Dr.Morris went over the answers at the end. We moved on to weather production studio and it was very interesting to see how the weather man reads the weather news with nothing behind him except for a green screen. Some of our friends tried to go in front of the camera and act like the weather man, It was fun. We came back to the IED building and Mr. Bryce Touchstone  spoke about his experience overseas, which was interesting to hear unthinkable incidents he had to face there. After lunch we started with the art session, where we choose the image ,we want to create and discussed about the goodies Dr. Latham gave us related with arts. She demonstrated how to paint with water colors. Later Dr. Briswell discussed about the internet games and simulation. We searched some game simulation to incorporate in our lessons and we shared it with the class.

Day 5th GAETI

We are already in day 5 of the workshop!!
It is getting interesting everyday. We started the day with a n introduction to Weebly and we started creating an e-portfolio with Weebly. It was very interesting to create your own web page. It was hard but also challenging to create the web page.
Next we had our returning GAETI participants to share their opinions on the pros and cons of BYOD.
After lunch we had a very informative session on benefits and implementation on 1:1 program.
We drafted a letter to our School Board to implement the 1:1 program , which is very useful for the success of our students in this 21st century learning environment.
We worked on our e-portfolio development and learned how to add features on the website the rest of the afternoon session.

Day 4 GAETI

The day started with an introduction to Coal mine we were going and write some questions we wanted to know from the coal mine. The trip to cola mine was exciting and interesting. We took the tour of the coal mine where the real digging of lignite coal was taking place and how the coal was loaded into huge trucks for transport. After lunch a presentation gave lot of information about the cola mine. And a lab activity about the porosity of different types of soils was interesting and learned about the porosity of gravel,sand, pea gravel and clay.
the resource I want to take from this trip is a chart of how lignite coal is formed.

Day 3 in GAETI 2017

The day started with discussion on political cartoons, which was interesting. Then we moved on to mining activity , which was engaging and challenging. And the power point session was very informative and I learned many new features of power point. Afternoon session was learning about Google earth and Google maps , where we created Google maps and searched many places on earth using Google earth, it was cool. And we also sis the season activity outside. Later we did a reading activity and make a poem out of it and our group did a good job, Enjoyed the day.

Day 2 GAETI

 The day started with rain and a little bit of inconvenience. Morning session was learning about Geography using maps. We learned about different types of maps and also how some countries are not the way it is shown in the map. Then we went to the library to learn about MS Excel. We created tables and different types of graphs using Excel, which was very interesting to me, as I did know many of the functions Ms.Stephanie taught during the class. We played Kinetic season exercise with a beach ball globe. Next session was physical and social data related with maps. Civil rights history was discussed with Mr.Micheal Murphy and he shared some very interesting and important information about civil rights. Political cartoons was also interesting , where the cartoonists is using  persuasive techniques to put forward his ideas about a situation.
The day was pretty busy and I learned some new information .

First day in GAETI- 2017 ( June 5th)

The day started with lot of excitement and expectations in GAETI. All the staff was introduced and material needed for the class was given. Dr. Latham was very active and made me feel comfortable in the class.  So morning session was introduction, agenda for the day and a tour of the building. Then came the hard part!!!!. It was pouring and we were supposed to go another building to take parking passes, which we did and them went for lunch break. The second half of the day was more interesting as we went to the library to learn about the magnolia website. Then learned and discussed about 3 different frame works and worked in groups to discuss and come with 3 different activities we will do using the frame works. Our group decided to do paper plane lab activity , where students hypothesize, design and modify their paper planes to make them fly further. They use technology, be creative and innovative. Write lab report and read the instructions do make paper planes. We also created a blog on blogger.com.
